GEOSAT Follow-On (GFO) is the successor to the GEOSAT-A satellite and is intended to develop an operational series of radar altimeters to maintain continuous ocean observation.  GFO was built by Ball Aerospace and Technologies Corporation and launched in February 1998. On 29 November 2000 the US Navy accepted the satellite as operational.  GFO includes a Water Vapor Radiometer (WVR) to monitor and correct for propagation delays of the radar altimeter signal due to columnar water vapor and cloud liquid water. We are responsible for monitoring the on-orbit performance of the WVR as part of the GFO calibration/validation activity.
